What services does TVCCA provide?
TVCCA has been serving the poor and disadvantaged members of our community since 1965. Our programs touch lives of many people of all ages and include housing, financial assistance, energy, nutrition, volunteer, and child development services.
What services are geared towards children?
TVCCA operates Head Start and Early Care programs that serve approximately 1,300 children per year and a Women, Infants and Children supplemental nutrition program that serves 3,800 families per year.
What is the purpose of the Capital Campaign?
There is an urgent need to expand and renovate TVCCA's Child Development Center in New London to offer a healthy, safe, optimal learning site and to accommodate a growing waiting list.
What are the funding sources?
Funds for the renovation will come from a combination of CHEFA (Connecticut Health and Educational Facilities Authority) dollars as well as community contributions.
What is CHEFA's contribution?
$2.3 million in funding has been provided by CHEFA for expansion. These will enable TVCCA to add 4 classrooms, an on-site health office, 2 playground areas, and new or improved equipment throughout the facility.
What is being asked of the community and other sources?
The balance of $700,000 is needed to complete the project. These funds will allow for improvement to existing classroom space, the buildingÕs facade and other renovations to usable spaces.
What will be the total outcome?
These efforts will increase the Center's population to a total of 176 students. It will give working families and their children affordable child care and a high-quality preschool education. This will prepare these children for successful school experience, ultimately benefiting them and society. The return on investment has been documented to be as much as $16 for every $1 spend on high-quality preschool.
How will donors be recognized?
Community support will be recognized by donor plaques displayed throughout the Center. The size and location of the plaque will be reflective of the donor commitment.
