Nearly 600 friends, family, professionals, public servants and fans gathered together for a three hour event Thursday night at the Mohegan Sun Casino to honor Norwich Mayor Ben Lathrop. The evening was kicked off by a ceremony conducted by the Connecticut Color Guard, and a blessing and invocation by Spiritual Leader and Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Elder Laughing Woman Patrick. Clearly moved by the event, an emotional Mayor Lathrop thanked Norwich for the opportunity to serve and recognized the many family, friends and co-workers who provided him with support over the years. “You can’t go wrong if you act from the heart,” he stated. Connecticut Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, a long-time friend and associate of Lathrop, recognized the Mayor’s willingness to work hard to do the right thing. The fete was in large part sponsored by the generous support of the Mohegan Tribal Nations. In keeping with his deep appreciation of his community and those that serve it, the Mayors requested that proceeds from the event will go to Hospice of Southeastern Connecticut and TVCCA.
