Pfizer Volunteers for Annual Day of Caring

On May 3rd and May 17th, 2011 TVCCA Senior Nutrition/ Meals on Wheels Program welcomed Pfizer Volunteers for a United Way of Southeastern Connecticut 3rd annual “Day of Caring” event at the TVCCA Commissary/Senior Nutrition Office in Bozrah Connecticut. This event assists TVCCA’s Senior Nutrition Program in creating the much needed awareness for these vital services to seniors in New London, Windham and parts of Tolland County, and offers Pfizer employees the opportunity to “give back” to their community. The volunteers on May 3rd were no strangers to our program, as it was their third year back with us! As for the volunteers on May 17th it was their first visit. Both teams finished the day excited and thankful for the opportunity. They even offered to find additional volunteers to assist in our future efforts.

Pfizer volunteers from Pharma Therapeutics Statistics were Feng Gao, Yanwei Zhang, Eve Pickering, Xiaozi Li, Fasheng Li, and Ke Wang, along with Pharma Therapeutics Clinical Pharmacology volunteers Tong Zhu and Clare Buckeridge. Volunteers fell right in to our facility’s daily routine, preparing and packaging TVCCA’s Meals on Wheels suppers and new, home-style senior café entrées that are served to over 1,600 seniors daily. Their participation in this year’s Day of Caring was well received and beneficial to both TVCCA and the volunteers.

As our population ages the need for supportive services will continue to grow. Community partners will continue to become vital in maintaining the quality and quantity of services. We appreciate Pfizer’s continued support of our programs and look forward to future Days of Caring.
