Financial Education and Self Sufficiency Programs

The Financial Education and Self-Sufficiency Program provides supportive services designed to foster and develop positive household budgeting and credit management skills to assist households with overcoming their current hardships and  taking command of their financial futures.  The program provides financial education through a combination of classroom and one on one services, basic needs case management supports, and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program in a coordinated effort to assist households with reaching a greater level of self-sufficiency.

Back to Basics Workshops

The” Back to Basics’ Workshops is a free and offered monthly at eastern Connecticut’s  four CT Works sites in Norwich, New London, Willimantic and Danielson.  In this workshop you will:

  • Learn tools and tips for better budgeting.
  • Create a personalized income and expense sheet.
  • Understand the value of your credit score and how it is used.
  • Learn the benefits of S.M.A.R.T. goals.
  • Learn how to obtain your free Credit Report and Score.

This workshop is available to the general public.  Call your local CT Works office to sign up for the next available workshop and to learn more about other exciting workshop opportunities available through CT Works.  

One on One Budget Coaching and Basic Needs Access

The Financial Education and Self Sufficiency Program provides personalized One on One Budget Coaching Sessions designed to apply effective household budgeting and credit management skills to participants’ own financial situations.  Through these One on One’s, participants will have the ability to establish their own personalized S.M.A.R.T. goals,  develop their own personalized household budget and learn additional ways to cut on costs and save money, access their free credit reports, and receive ongoing support and encouragement from dedicated TVCCA Case Managers.  If eligible, participants can also expect to receive assistance accessing support services if needed to alleviate certain household and other financial hardships (i.e SNAP, TANF, SAGA, CEAP, etc.)
