Local Foundations Help TVCCA Help New London Families

TVCCA’s New London Little Learners/Head Start Center was a major beneficiary of several grant awards from local foundations this spring. All will assist with renovations and much needed upgrades at our Bayonet Street facility which include lighting, flooring, windows, alarm systems, landscaping and exterior face-lift. The 8,000 square foot center accommodates up to 176 infants, toddlers, and preschoolers.

“Especially in these difficult times, when foundations are being hard-pressed to fill so many important needs, its good to know we have long-term partners we can count on,” said David Yovaisis, Chief Development Officer at TVCCA. “Local funds are very important to us. Not only do they demonstrate that we have the support and confidence of our communities, but they also enable us to leverage additional funds from Federal and State sources.”

Local foundations who contributed to the Bayonet Street renovation include:

  • Liberty Bank Foundation - $10,000 capital campaign award for general facility renovations and upgrades.
  • Community Foundation of Southeastern Connecticut - $8,800 award for the purchase and installation of an iron security fence around a new infant/toddler outdoor play area.
  • Dominion Nuclear - $5,000 award towards the purchase and installation of a fire alarm system upgrade in the existing building to bring it up to date with the current technology of the fire alarm system in the new facility wing.
  • Bodenwein Public Benevolent Foundation - $3,000 award for the purchase of age-appropriate play and storage equipment for the new infant/toddler play area.

The project has been funded through a variety of competitive grants, bonds, and corporate and personal donations. A TVCCA first-time ever capital campaign is currently underway. To find out how you can give, please go to the “How to Give” tab on this website.
