2008 Palmer Davies Leadership Award

On Thursday, October 23rd, United Community and Family Services at their Annual Dinner awarded the Palmer Davies Leadership Award to Deborah Monahan, Executive Director of TVCCA.

The Palmer Davies Leadership Award was created in 2006 to recognize an outstanding leader in the community who has improved the health and well-being of the community or region through advocacy, leadership, and by fostering a community spirit that reflects the mission and values of UCFS. It is named for Mrs. William S. (Fannie) Palmer and Mrs. John (Emily) Davies, founders of the United Workers of Norwich, now known as United Community & Family Services.

Deborah Monahan, this year's recipient, has been serving her community for more than 35 years. She began her career as a caseworker with TVCCA's child day care program, then worked as a state and federal grant process for the agency, In 1976, Deb became the first program director for the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program, and later she joined the TVCCA administrative team as the Executive Assistant/Deputy Director. In l982, she was promoted to Associate Executive Director. Since l998, Deb has served as the Executive Director of TVCCA where she is responsible for the overall administration of all the agency's programs and operations and also directs the development of community resources.

She is indeed an exceptional leader and advocate, and is admired and highly respected by her colleagues.
