Energy Assistance

Need help with Energy Bills?

With winter coming upon us fast and fuel prices higher than ever, many area residents have real cause for concern. But with a little knowledge and a little planning ahead, you can be prepared! TVCCA operates a Connecticut Energy Assistance Program that helps thousands of area residents and might be able to help you. Taking a few minutes to read this now, can help us to help you. It can also save you hours of running around later. If your income is limited and if you are in danger of not being able to pay your energy bills, be sure to read the following information thoroughly for details.

Who To Call
Don't wait until the last minute to take action. Schedule an appointment to apply to TVCCA's Energy Assistance Program as soon as possible. Applications are accepted from October 1st through April 14th, Monday - Friday, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m..

Where To Go
Once you've made an appointment you will go to one of our Energy offices to fill out an application. Offices are open from Monday - Friday, from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. Your appointment will be made at one of two locations:

If you have a hardship and cannot get to our offices, we will make arrangements to meet you at a more convenient time or place.

What To Bring
Your eligibility is based on your income and family size. There are rules we need to follow in order to help you. To speed up the process, be sure you bring all of the following with you:

  • Photo Identification
  • Social Security numbers for all household members over the age of 2 years
  • Birth date of all household members
  • Name and address of landlord
  • Copy of utility bill if household heats with a utility (bills must be in the name of a household member over the age of 18
  • Documentation of age or disability, if applicable
  • Proof of household income for the four consecutive weeks prior to the date of application for all household members (pay stubs, child support, monthly social security, pension, etc.)
  • Current rent or lease receipt or copy of lease if heat is included in the rent
  • Homeowners need to provide amount of mortgage payment
  • Current proof of all assets (bank statement for each account, monthly dividend or interest amount, cash value of stocks, bonds, CD's and IRA's)
  • Name of your fuel company, or, if you heat with electric or natural gas, a complete copy of current bill or current shut off notice.

What Happens Next?
You will notified of your eligibility or your ineligibility and be given further instructions.

  • calling ahead for an appointment,
  • showing up at the right place and time, and
  • bringing all of the items listed above with you.

For all members of the household
