Family Support Center

Offers services which strengthen families and help to prevent child abuse and neglect. Services include: Interactive play group, anger management classes, support groups, supervised visitation program, parenting classes, informal counseling, referrals, advocacy, education and self-improvement program, health and nutritional information, donated clothing, toys, books, and small household items, snacks and lunch, baby equipment and emergency supplies, home visits/outreach, as well as a drop-in center five days/week. A supervised, developmental play center for children is also integral to our services at our family support center program.

Families First Program

A continuum of parent support and child abuse prevention services. Collaborative partners: Backus Hospital, LEARN, Norwich Youth and Family Services, and United Community and Family Services.

• Intensive Home Visitation: Home visits to expectant or new, high risk parents. Services include case management, parent education, referrals, informal counseling, developmental screening, child development education. Visits may continue until the child is age 5.
• Baby Steps: A program of information, referrals, and telephone support for first time parents beginning immediately after birth, extending for up to six months.
• Nurturing Program: An intense parent and child group education program which uses the nationally acclaimed curriculum.
• Fatherhood Component: case management, group support, parent education and referrals for fathers.
