Meals on Wheels/Senior Community Cafés
Benefit of Program
- Nutritious meals are delivered hot to the home and provide 1/3 of the Recommended Dietary needs for seniors. Supplemental meals such as cold suppers and frozen weekend meals may also be available pending funding.
- Meals help support the independence and well-being of seniors with a daily "wellness check" by delivery personnel.
- Access other services offered through TVCCA, such as Energy.
Who is eligible for services?
- Homebound elderly, aged 60 years or more that require home delivered meals due to medical necessity or social isolation. Must be unable to access one of the Community Cafes.
- Spouses and dependent children may also qualify.
- Assessment of need by program nutritionist and program staff upon referral from physician, VNA, discharge planners, social workers, family, neighbors, or self. (Southeast area assessment conducted by Senior Resources.)
- Date needed include: basic information, plus last 4 digits of Social Security number, medical information, length of need for service, and secondary contact numbers.
Are there Costs or Fees for Meals?
Funding is partially provided by Federal/State and local sources. A donation is suggested that is used to expand the service, though no one is denied a meal for not donating. Suggested donations vary from $2.00 - $2.50 a meal or whatever the client can afford.
Uniqueness of Program
TVCCA is the contracted provider of Meals on Wheels services with partial funding administered through Department of Social Services through the Senior Resources Agency on Aging.
Support Meals on Wheels by donating a wheel for $5.00.
