Family Support Center Services

The goal of this program is to enhance parenting skills, family functioning and coping abilities, to help families increase their resources and build a stronger support system. A drop-in center is provided for parents and children, and the following services are provided:

  • Adult Group Services: Parenting classes, anger management, stress reduction, informational sessions on programs of interest to our clients: legal rights, nutrition, budgeting, Health Education, medical care, etc.
  • Adult Individual Services: Informal counseling, follow-up and support, case management, -on-1 parenting and health information.
  • Children's Services: Supervised, developmentally appropriate playrooms for children.
  • Basic Needs: Emergency assistance, formula, diapers, assistance with clothing, books, toys, baby equipment.

Families First Program

The goal of this program is to prevent child abuse and neglect and to promote positive health outcomes for pregnant women and young children.

  • Intensive Home Visitation: For first time parents screened and assessed as most in need of services, a long-term, model home visitation program is provided beginning either prenatally or immediately after the birth of the first child.
  • A Telephone Program: Information and support for lower risk first time parents, beginning in the hospital after the birth of the child, and continuing for three to six months.
  • Group Component: An intensive parent and child group education program which uses a nationally acclaimed curriculum.

Promoting Responsible Fatherhood

Individual and group support, education and advocacy for fathers, particularly fathers who are young, have small children, and may be separated from the child's mother. Goal is to encourage fathers to be emotionally and financially involved in their children's lives, and to overcome any barriers which keep them from being fully and positively involved with their children.
