Senior Companion Program (SCP)

The Senior Companion Program enables income-eligible persons age 55 and over to remain physically and mentally active and to enhance their self-esteem through continued participation in community services.
Senior Companion volunteers can serve a minimum of 15 hours and they can serve more than 20 hours per week, working with adults in convalescent care who have been diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Volunteers will provide one on one companionship, social and recreational support in the convalescent homes. When the participants leave the convalescent centers the volunteers will then provide services in their home.

Benefits include an hourly stipend, secondary accident and liability insurance, transportation and/or mileage reimbursement to sites, a daily meal (where possible). In addition, volunteers attend monthly training sessions and annual recognition and social events.

The Senior Companion Program serves New London and Windham Counties.
