The WIC program is a supplementary food and nutrition education program for income eligible pregnant, postpartum, or breastfeeding women, infants and children under the age of five years who are at nutritional risk. WIC food packages provide specific nutrients important for normal growth and development.

Checks for supplemental foods are distributed from every month to every three months to eligible participants at locations throughout New London County.

Nutrition education, diet counseling, and referrals to other service agencies occur on an on-going basis.

Income eligibility is based on income at or below 185% of Federal Poverty Guidelines. Medical/nutrition risk is determined by WIC Nutrition staff and/or private physician/medical staff. Recipients of the Food Stamp Program, assistance under Temporary Family Assistance (TFA) program, or the Husky A Medical Program are automatically income-eligible for the WIC program.

Referrals are accepted from potential participants, health and social service agencies, hospital and private physicians.

Serves New London County.
