Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP)

Are you: 55 or over; limited on time but still want to give back; have a desire to impact your community; want to help impact future generations? Volunteer placements are flexible and can often accommodate any schedule.

RSVP offers volunteers the opportunity to positively impact their community by participating in programs like those listed below that utilize their skills, knowledge and life experiences.

Do you enjoy going shopping, spending time talking to your neighbor or helping others maintain their independence and dignity?

Become a Friendly Shopper! RSVP staff will match you with a homebound client.

  • Purchase needed food items
  • Help the individual maintain independence and dignity by providing a vital link to fresh foods
  • RSVP staff will provide free training and ensure financial accountability

Become a Friendly Visitor! RSVP staff will match you with a homebound elderly client.

  • Share your time with someone who needs a friend or combat loneliness by sharing stories, playing games, and doing crafts
  • Share your time via telephone with someone who needs a friend to discuss current events and activities
  • RSVP staff will provide free training and match you with a client with similar interests.

Do you enjoy helping people maintain their health?

Volunteer to provide Medical Rides:  

  • Pick up and drop off the client on scheduled day and time.
  • Complete monthly time sheet with verification of time.
  • Mail/email time sheet to Coordinator monthly.
  • Report any incident (even if not resulting in injury) to Coordinator immediately.
  • Dial 911 if client is in danger or distress upon arrival then phone Coordinator.
  • Report concerns to Coordinator

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Be 55 years old or older and complete an enrollment form
  • Complete monthly time sheet with verification of mileage & client initials/signature.
  • Agree to and pass a background check
  • Provide proof of automobile insurance if driving and claiming mileage
  • Be reliable with neat and clean appearance
  • Maintain strict confidentiality
  • Must be able to safely walk and guide the client from door to door

Do you want to support our veterans?

Volunteer at our Veterans Coffeehouses in Norwich, Pawcatuck, New London, Groton, Montville, and Mystic.

Serve vets at our gatherings twice monthly, coordinate speakers and veterans’ counselors, and help to promote awareness of veterans’ needs.

Do you want to help make sure no one goes hungry or help teach others about health and nutrition?

Become a valuable team member of  the Senior Nutrition Program! 

  • Deliver Meals on Wheels to people 60+ who live in New London, Windham, and parts of Tolland County
  • Senior Nutrition Program will provide free training and support
